New York City, nighttime. Everyone around him buzzed about their own businesses with cell phones and briefcases in hand. He could hear chattering, cars honking, people yelling and jackhammers buzzing. Some were heading to and from work while others spent the night to go shopping at New York’s finest stores. To others who weren’t used to the city they would be confused by the lifestyle, but to the New Yorkers it was a normal evening with their Starbucks in their hands.
Jean-Paul hated it.
It was as if nothing had happened in the city. Everyone went about their own luxurious thoughts without care of the Decimation. For Jean-Paul, it was unacceptable, simply unacceptable. When America goes through a vital unfortunate event, they gather around, hold hands and show their façades to pretend like they care about those who were lost. However, when an event happens that has nothing to do with their community, they go through everyday life as if nothing had transpired. He knew that the bitter anger he had inside derived solely from mourning, but how could one mourn such a tragic event when others around had no care for it?
No matter. Tonight, Jean-Paul took a stroll in New York City in an attempt to forget about the unfortunate events. Amidst the loud noises of the city, Jean-Paul found refuge from his iPod. Walking further and further without notice, the young man noticed that he had ended up in the middle of Central Park. In the midst of nature, Jean-Paul spotted a tree that called to his attention. He sat down on it, with his back arching to the curve as he listened to the songs on his playlist, unaware of the people passing him by.

He was never able to decide which time felt better; the cold, frigid night or the sunny, windy day. Either way, flying with the massive feathered limbs never felt any more - liberating - than it had before. He figured most of that intense feeling was because he knew what it was like without the red plumage sprouting from the back of his muscular frame. Even to give up looking like an average person, Joshua had come to the conclusion he would only live forever without his wings if it were for something important; or someone.
Wind blew over his tan body, the dark red scarf around his neck fluttering behind his head. His bare chest moved as it normally would if he were walking. He wasn't, however; he was above the Earth and trees, flying over the gusts of winds with his crimson wings. Joshua's eyes were closed shut, the cold blasting his face, and he welcomed it. Even though the plumage had forced its way out of his flesh, for a second time in his life, only a few months ago, it seemed every time he took flight it was like for the first time in decades. He had allowed himself, for the most part, to replace the memories of the Decimation with the rejoice of regaining his powers.
The young man landed in the middle of the park, amidst the trees and common thick foliage that offered a slight shelter for him. He would normally have chosen a less dense area, but the night air surrounded him with the camouflage of darkness. Emerald orbs looks around him, then he finally picked up a foot and walked along the brush. Snow crunched under his shoes, the edges of his tight jeans starting to get wet from the melting of it. He could see some looking at him from the corners of his eyes, but ignored it like had learned to do years prior.
He only wished....
Joshua's heart skipped a beat as his lush orbs caught sight the person his thoughts had wandered to. It was difficult for Joshua to not eventually allow his mind to fall upon the other mutant. Jean-Paul had been there for him when everything seemed to just turn to chaos.
Joshua walked up to his boyfriend, carefully at first, until he realized that the young man would not be able to hear him with the level of music playing in his ears. The angel smiled slightly, then walked up to the tree, standing right next to it. With a toned arm he reached over to touch Jean-Paul's jaw, is bare chest leaning slightly against the speedster's arm and the tree. Joshua brought his lips to the French-Canadian's, savoring the scent and taste of the moment as he inhaled sharply.

Not that he would ever admit to it but Jean-Paul did enjoy acoustic music. The current song on his iPod sported Daniel Bedingfield’s “I Can’t Reach You”. Unknowing that there were others around him, Jean-Paul attempted his own little tidbit at singing. Of course, he wasn’t as glamorous in singing as his significant other. Then again, who could compete with someone who had vocal talents as a part of their mutation? With his eyes closed as he sung through the lyrics, Jean-Paul felt a sudden rush of wind rush by and a small smirk escaped his lips as he changed to humming.
Within an instant his jaw felt the slight tingling cold of Joshua’s hands from flying in the cold weather, but was then ignored by the wet hills of his lips. Almost as a gut reaction, the French-Canadian enveloped his boyfriend with his own lips as he reached behind his neck with his right hand and ran his fingers through Joshua’s red locks.
"Bonsoir, mon beau,"* he simply said to entice the man wrapped around his arms, following it with another luscious touch of his lips. "Comment ça va?"**
It had been a great while since Jean-Paul had received such attention from his boyfriend, but he wasn’t going to blame him. It was Jean-Paul who wanted to give Joshua his space, especially after Decimation and after getting his mutation back. He wished that he didn’t make Joshua think he was pushing him away, but from the current scenario of things, that was hardly the case.

He smiled as another tender kiss grazed over his lips, exhaling in a soft sigh when the folds parted. He had missed moments like this, even though the two had shared such every now and then during the recent weeks. The present didn't seem that much different from the rest, but it didn't seem like all of the other times he had shown his affection to the other male.
Joshua would be completely ridden with guilt if he never as so much held Jean-Paul's hand at some moments. The angel was a romantic, yes, but he also knew he owed the speedster quite a bit for being around when he lost his wings. That time had been difficult, and there had been only two things that made it easier. The first was the young man he held on to; the other was the knowledge that the lack of crimson plumage would not last forever. Though there were possible complications that threatened an easy return of said feathers.
"Jean-Paul," he said in the deep natural voice he possessed, "I'll trust that you said nice things since you know I don't speak French." A smile graced his face again as he gave his boyfriend another kiss, this time it was a quick one on the lips. His elbow settled on the tree, angled so his hand could run through the short locks of hair the other male possessed.

"Bien sûr, mon amour,"* Jean-Paul replied once again in his native tongue. The flirtation between the two intensified in a matter of seconds. Hands groped on each other as lips tempted the tainted taste of the others’ lips. As Josh placed his elbow on the tree Jean-Paul sat at, he laid back to use his boyfriend’s biceps as his pillow. He tilted his face slightly towards Josh’s body as he nestled his head under the winged one’s chin. It had been a while… quite a while.
"How are you holding up?" he asked, sincerely in a soft voice with his breath warming up Josh’s chest.
There had been too many things that Josh had to deal with himself, and Jean-Paul respected his decisions and backed off his space. But right now all Jean-Paul wanted was for the world to stop, and for the moment to last as long as he wanted. Could it have been possible that Jean-Paul gained some romantic tendencies from his lover, Josh? Improbable. And even if he did, he would never admit to it. Instead, he traced Josh’s abdominal muscles with his pointer finger as he waited for his response.

His lips pressed against the corner of Jean-Paul's forehead, his nose lingering in the scent of the French-Canadian's hair. The unique smell was a trait of the speedster's unique, and often picky, taste. There were some things that the other male would not budge on, be it a brand of this or that, or even a certain type of food, and Joshua would simply stare at him. He'd shake his head playfully, making some sort of comment on Jean-Paul's inability to change certain simple things.
But then again, that was something Jay didn't want to change about him.
The muscles of his chest contracted slightly and the corners of his lips turned with the touch over the tanned skin. A giddy sensation flowed through his nerves, not only because of the comically sensitive area, but because of whom the wandering digit belonged to. The angel tired to ignore it, but the amusement was involuntary and his body jerked only a millimeter before returning to be close with Jean-Paul's. He hummed away a small, smooth laugh before replying.
"Just fine," he said softly into his boyfriend's ear, the curl in his lips coming out through his words. "Much better with you, though," he openly confessed. For a brief moment he thought of what others would see if they walked past the pair. He didn't care if they gave glares of hatred or even jealousy. The thought was only a reminder of what he currently had and was able to cherish without degrading thoughts detaching him from reality.
