Mutation:
Teleportation - Blink’s main ability is to teleport; and as her namesake would suggest this is usually accompanied by a ‘blinking’ sound. Her technique is such that it is nigh detectable in terms of it’s spontaneous execution, but it is flawed in many ways. Due to her lack of confidence in teleporting living things, she is majorly hindered and even scared of venturing through limbo in order to arrive at another destination. This means she’s reluctant to go more than a few feet, and while she has no qualms with teleporting where she can’t see, a skill with such a short range isn’t entirely useful.
Despite her reluctance however, Blink has the potential to teleport herself anywhere up to a maximum of three miles , and teleport with others up to a single mile. Understandably, the further she goes, the more lethargic she becomes, but for the time being her use of short distances, it's sufficient.
Javelins - While she herself will not teleport unless the situation truly dictates it, Clarice does opt to use javelin shaped projectiles where possible. The idea is to channel her ability through the javelin in order to teleport whatever may be in the way, to somewhere entirely new and hopefully less unhelpful. Of course, the problem is you have no idea where your teleportee is going to end up, and if ever used on something with a pulse, it could potentially prove fatal.
Distinctly Pink - Part of Clarice’s mutation is the physical manifestation. In her case, she’s bright pink. In her early life she was perceived as demonic, but as the years have rolled on, the word ‘muppet’ seems to fit her quite accurately. With no visible pupils to speak of, and a natural pink birthmark over her eye, it’s quite easy to be shocked when seeing her, but it’s only genetics. It can’t be that bad right?

Personality:Due to her very loud appearance, Clarice is a very shy and quiet person. Most of the activities she participates in involve some degree of seclusion, including reading and academic study. She is quite kind, though at times she can be somewhat naive due to her limited interaction with others, which unfortunately makes her a bit of a doormat for outspoken and crafty students.
Don't allow the quiet exterior to fool you though. Blink is capable of being far stronger and louder than people seem to give her credit for. If you're one of the people she cares about, Clarice will, quite literally, sacrifice everything to help you. Though on most occasions she's generally just content with listening to problems and trying to solve them. It's a bit tedious at times, but it seems to allow people to see past her looks and to what she's really like.
Randomness is her middle name. For someone that's so comfortable on her own, she does come to life amidst the right sort of crowd. Her aim is to nullify some of the initial shock her appearance tends to give, and to try and turn a depressing situation into a much more pleasing one. It's practically genetic, she just has to be making someone smile, even if it's not herself. Why else would she be so fond of supporting random causes that have no relevance? Remember the rabbits?
Blink is also compassionate, even if she is somewhat misguided in her choice of worthy causes. She'll often be the shoulder to cry on, and the person to liven up a grievous situation, even if it involves humor of the self depricating variety. All in all though, her quirks mesh together to make her a complex, but likeable individual. Even if she is percieved as more than a little odd most of the time.
History: Clarice Ferguson was born a mutant. Though unlike many people born with the x-gene, hers was blatantly obvious from day one. She was born with pink skin and purple hair. Traits that inevitably led her to be branded a 'demon'. Upon seeing her as somewhat of a monster, her parents disowned her and left her, a newborn child, in the hospital. The staff, there, thankfully, weren't quite so judgemental and took it upon themselves to find her a home.Very few people wanted to be the parents of a mutant child, and those that did seem to express an interest were only from travelling circuses. Unable to give up a child into that life, one of the nurses decided the best thing to do, was to adopt the child.
Her early years were pleasant. Well as pleasant as you can get when you don't venture out into the world. People had yet to accept mutants and quite often tales of teenagers being subjected to vicious beatings because of it, reached her home. Clarice didn't mind all that much though. She was home schooled, and lived in a small house on the outskirts of a major city. It wasn't until she reached her early teens that she decided perhaps a little more social contact would be beneficial.
Having come across other mutants in her line of work, [generally those that had been beaten], Clarice's adoptive mother brought some home with her one day, in the hope of sparking a friendship. At first, she was unsure, but after a few memorable games of Truth or Dare, found she had made some of the best friends she'd ever have. They met up every week after that, watching movies, gossiping, and just generally acting like normal teens.
Apparently her happiness was to be short lived as two major incidents occurred in a single night. Whilst having her friends over as usual, Clarice recieved a phonecall telling of her mother's death. So emotionally shocked by the news, Ms.Ferguson took comfort from her friends. Though this was only the beginning of her problems. Whilst holding her friend's hand, Clarice's mutation made itself known. She wasn't just physically different, she was also a teleporter. In her shock she'd managed to teleport her friend's arm from the elbow down, and nothing more. All she really remembers about that incident is blood, and the promise she made to herself: Never teleport another living thing again.
It turned out her friend had his arm re-attached, and understood it had been an unintentional occurance. Blink however was less than forgiving of herself. How could she honestly look him in the face again after doing that? Deeming herself a danger to her friends, Clarice packed up her things and left. A few years and maybe she could look them in the eye again, but before that could happen, she needed to learn how to suppress her powers.
It was easier said than done. Having to stay away from society, Blink adopted a hood so that she could, when required, fetch things that she needed. In time she even learnt to teleport in and out of shops to grab necessities. It was on one of these occasions that she learnt of the Xavier Institute. Whilst attempting to aquire a new pair of shoes, Clarice was apprehended by the X-woman Storm. Explaining her situation, Ororo told her about the Institute and that the Professor may be able to help her. Suprised by the prospect of learning to control her mutation, Blink returned with Storm to the 'tute, and has since been a student there.
Things did take a turn for the worst following the demise of the Jean Grey and in the wake of her death, a cure had been found for the mutant gene. Understandably, Clarice was one of the few people at the front of the queue, but eventually decided against it simply because she couldn’t come to terms with being rid of her own skin - however pink it may be.
Life is looking up at the moment, and although both Jean and the Professor are no longer living influences at the mansion, there’s plenty of people to connect with and to be accepted by. She’s still painfully shy of course, but there’s always a time for change, and that time:- is now.

“How about I exchange that three hours with something a bit more productive.”
It was a good job Clarice didn’t really read into things people said, if she had done she may have grown up being less oblivious to innuendos that crept into conversation. It was all a matter of how you interpreted things and being the naïve little Muppet that she was, it was all perfectly innocent. Although the actual statement did seem to raise a few questions in the young teleporter’s mind. Namely, what could be more productive than sitting around thinking? She wasn’t the most active of people and sometimes just sitting down in a corner reflecting on the mass of swirling images in your head, really could work wonders. She might have to explain that theory to Calvin sometime. Opening her mouth to enquire as to what he meant, the neon blinker closed it again a moment later as it was already answered.
“By that I mean…getting to know you more.”
Well, that was something to tell the others when she got chance. Mimic was actually quite nice if you took the time out to have a little verbal exchange, and contrary to popular belief he wasn’t always trying to be a smart-ass. Hand reaching upwards to poke at the henna markings over her eyelids, the mutant couldn’t help but glow inside. The fact she’d made a friend in someone would keep her on a personal high for the next week! Alright, perhaps that was a bit of an exaggeration, but considering Clarice’s temprement as of late, it wouldn’t be considered spontaneous if she really was that happy.
“Maybe sometime that can happen soon That is…after you catch up on your studies.”
Studies? This was coming from one of the biggest rebels going that by what she’d heard never actually managed to get a lot of assignments in on time. Eyebrow irking upwards, Blink let her eyelids follow suit and fix wholeheartedly on the one addressing her. She wasn’t even going to risk exploring the contradiction there. Weight shifting between legs again, the mini cherry blossom mused on whether it was pointless of her to continue studying anyway. Nobody would employ a pink skinned girl regardless of how mentally able she was. Well, not unless the Muppet show wanted a new puppet with a physics degree. Shaking the thought from her mind with a visible head motion, Clarice parted her lips and nodded. “There’s my incentive then.” The sooner she got it done, the sooner she could have some fun.
Lips twitching as the teleporter watched Mimic blink repeatedly, the teen had a fairly good idea of what he was thinking of. Handcuffs. Oh god, why did she have to say that?! Randomness never really fell into the category of logic though, a fact many of the students had already noticed when it came to the x-mas elf.
“You know…if you have a set of cuffs on your right now…I’d marry you without question.Seriously…”
That was certainly unexpected. Features contorting into a face of disbelief, Blink let the revelation sink in for a moment before she burst out laughing. A few minutes of insane giggling on her part was what it required to get out of her system, but she wasn’t done with the idea just yet. Books tucked neatly under one arm, Clarice let her hand slide into her combat pockets for a quick rummage around to see if she did actually have any bizarre items like that. That particular search turning up no luck, both hands raised in mock defeat. “I’m all out wonder boy, I’ll make sure I carry them around with me next time.” Eyelid closing in a wink, the source of pink blinkage took a few steps towards the wall and propped herself up against that.
“Ohh…is that right? Well, I’ll have to remember that.”
Oh dear god no! She’d just left the entire female population of the mansion open for a scavenger hunt. Now fun though it would be to watch Calvin rummage through all manner of unconventional hiding places to find said material, it really wouldn’t be worth the exile she’d likely receive from her peers. She’d warn them to remove all incriminating evidence , when she’d done there . She wasn’t afterall, that cruel.
“Glad I could help.”
Emerald orbs retaining their focus, Clarice watched as he turned his back almost expecting her to leave there and then. Did he want her to? Was she supposed to act like some kind of spoilt brat and get what she wanted then casually bugger off? If so whoever made up that rule could take a running jump, Clarice had standards. So despite the less than appealing reception she was getting at that moment in time, the cerise nymph stayed rooted on the spot until Calvin responded to her final question.
“Good…”
Good. Well that was nice to know. He’d had a rough time from what she’d heard and since he was happy then that meant that he was coming to terms with whatever personal business had dragged him away from the mansion last time. The second half of Mimic’s vocalization punctured Blink’s thoughts, instantly making her jaw drop ever so slightly.
“So…wanna go out sometime?”
What? The news hadn’t really sunk in yet to be registered in her mind. A slither of pink emerging from within her mouth, the cherry top dampened her lips and tilted her head forwards. “Sure thing, just so long as I don’t have to bring the handcuffs.” Flashing a pearly grin, the teen inclined her head in a nod of understanding as Mimic continued.
“We’ll be killing to birds with one stone…I get to take you out…and you get to ride in my car.”
That sounded like a plan. Well except for the car. She still maintained it was a deathtrap, but with the ability to teleport she should be safe for the time being. “I’d better get these assignments out of the way then. Catch up with you later?” The idea of studying had about as much appeal as a eating a brick, but you can’t have the good without the bad now, can you?
