Pyrotechnics:The power to generate bright bursts of energy from her fingertips. She refers to these globules as fireworks and 'pafs'. The globules obey her mental control, traveling where she directed them, arranging themselves in balls, streamers, and other shapes, and exploding when she wished. The strength of the energy can range from a multitude of colorful sparkles capable of temporarily blinding a person to a powerful detonation capable of smashing objects and destroying property. However, they can be used to produce heat or concussive force. Jubilee could absorb the fireworks back into her own body without harm.
Jubilee has the potential to detonate matter at a sub-atomic level. Jubilee normally holds back her power against people, afraid of killing them. Under emotional stress her powers are significantly more destructive. She is, however, able to use her mutation in various forms that she has rarely or never employed. These abilities include enormous burst of pyrotechnic energy from her being, – other than her fingertips – controlling her globes to her hands only and greatly amplifying the power of her punches, created a strobe-like pulse of light and blinding enemies. The list is great, but it is up to Jubilee to unlock her full potential.
Electronic/Psionic Invisibility: Jubilee is undetectable by telepathy and remote scans from Sentinels by unknown means.
Skills: Jubilee is skilled in gymnastics and had qualified for the Olympic Games before the death of her parents. Her lithe body allows her to perform feats such as aerobatic flips and spine contorting backbends. She also seems to have the makings of a good leader.
While living as a mallrat in California, she picked up a few money earning juggling tricks and of course, using her infamous five finger discount.
Personality: Jovial and quirky, Jubilee can never been seen with a frown on her face for long. She has always maintained a brilliant and addictive aura around herself, generally cheering up anyone within her natural vantage. And like so many valley girls from Los Angeles, Jubilee has a lingering vernacular, so there isn’t much reason to jump to conclusion if she’s acting calm in a hot situation. It’s who she is, the way she expresses her anger and pain. Emotions can be a bountiful, causing Jubilee to retract and lean a head on the shoulders of her most trusted friends. But like a firecracker, the young Asian can pop back on her feet at anytime. During her emotional distress, Jubilee loses some control over her powers, she is fully capable of creating an explosion on a subatomic level when pushed to the extreme.
As a fighter and natural leader, Jubes is honest, trustworthy and brave. No matter how big the battle, how large the enemy – she confronts the situation head on, ready to take on the adversary as if it were a normal expedition in the Danger Room. Much like Storm, a figure she looks up to and genuinely loves, she will leave no man behind, nor does she wish to intentionally kill another being. More than anything, she wishes that her leadership qualities would be appraised, more often than not, she feels as if she is second to some of the other X-Men. Her jealously is secretly harbored, never to be mentioned aloud.
Her thoughts on mutant and human integration have remained strong. She believes in working towards a world were humans can finally except and love mutants. Jubilee hates bigotry and ignorance when it comes to mutants, and hearing about the cure has further convinced her to dislike narrow-minded humans. Still, no matter what the situation is, one thing is for certain: Jubilation Lee is a good friend. She makes sacrifices and puts herself second so that she may retain healthy and fun relationships with friends. Currently, Jubilee is not romantically interested in anyone.
History: Jubilee was born November, 22 and grew up in a wealthy suburb of LA. She was the only daughter of two prominent and very wealthy Chinese immigrant parents. She has one Aunt, her father’s sister, but never knew her very well as her parents were estranged from her. She grew up privileged, attending a private school, and spent much time passionately studying gymnastics. She was also a mall rat with her friend Cyn, a trait she keeps to this day. She had a wonderful life and a bright future. All that changed one day when she was 13 and returned home to find her parents murdered. She fled and contacted authorities, but steered clear of them herself as she knew her Aunt wouldn’t take her in. This was a very confusing time for her, not only was she dealing with the death of her parents, but her powers manifested as she was fleeing the house. She spent nearly a year living on the street, mostly hiding out in a mall far from her home. She quickly learned to control her fireworks and used this to entertain and make money when she could, though often she had to resort to stealing to survive. This caught the attention of local authorities who tried to apprehend her several times.
One day she saw two beautiful women shopping at the mall, and began following them, not knowing that they’d actually come to the mall looking for her. Taking the chance that she could trust them, she listened when they talked to her and told her about a school that she could attend. This was how she met Jean and Ororo. She knew she needed a more stable environment and went with them back to New York.
She arrived at the school late in the year and despite the ‘freaky weather’ seemed to blossom there, quickly catching up with her school work so as not to be behind a year. After catching up, she ‘slacked off’ and kept a C scattered with the occasional ‘accidental’ B average. The next year her Aunt located her and took custody. This caused Jubilee to be transferred back to L.A. where she remained for the summer. Jubilee wanted to go, hoping to connect with family she never really knew, and to find out what really happened to her parents as the case remains unsolved. However Jubilee quickly discovered her Aunt only wanted her there so that she could access the money that Jubilee’s parents had left her. Not putting up with this, and despite the summer school her Aunt had enrolled her in to ‘keep me out of her hair’ Jubilee got herself emancipated, which wasn’t difficult after she discover her Aunt was more than an alcoholic. She considered staying in L.A., but contacted the school and returned. She refuses to talk about this period in her life.
The next year was somewhat chaotic. She was one of the students taken, the oldest student taken, when Striker and his men attracted the mansion. She had helped make sure several students had gotten out and was trying to look for stragglers when she was taken. Her story is that she was hiding under her bed. She attempted to keep the other kids spirits up as they tried to figure out how to escape, but it was no use as there wasn’t a way to escape. Luckily they were rescued and returned to the mansion. She also graduated that year, and began to attend a local community college with the goal of getting her Associate of Arts in Teacher Education, with the intention of eventually teaching kindergarten. She felt she needed to be self-sufficient if she was going to return to L.A. and discover what happened to her parents. After the events in the summer, she changed her goals and is now working towards becoming a grade 4-9 instructor with the hope of becoming an asset to the only place that offered her a real home after she lost her own - the Xavier Institute.
Despite goals that would seem to allow her to be taken seriously Jubilee has tempered any of that ‘nonsense’ by maintaining a vividly immature personality and is often mistaken for one of the younger students. This is probably also attributed to her spending a lot of time around them, so as to keep their hopes up. She is notorious for playing pranks, especially if she thinks the atmosphere is too tense.
Sample Post: Jubilee popped her gum. She was not the mature one here and she refused to be responsible. She was going to slip away just as soon as the coast was clear. Just because they’d labeled her a ‘chaperon’ didn’t mean they could keep her with the tour group of kids. She was protesting school field trips and the like and there so had to be candy around her somewhere and pop, she was in desperate need of sugar if she was going stuck in this boring museum all day.
She popped her gum again and resisted blowing a bubble. She’d seen the ‘I may be old but kids are evil types’ who’d sold them their tickets to this museum. They were still watching the whole group like hawks just waiting for them to slip and make a mistake. Nah, they were so more like vultures, ready to circle and dive in at the first sign of one of the kids getting something sticky on one of their precious museum pieces. Hello, cute kids! She like so thought old people were supposed to fall all over themselves at the sight of cute kids or something. Not these wacko,’s no, they’d given each kid an evil eye, as if daring them to make a mess so they could have an excuse to kick them out. So bubble blowing was out. She’d get caught and the wacko’s would like so disapprove and since she for some reason beyond her control had been given one of the ‘adult’ designations it’d probably reflect on the little kids and they’d like so be judged more harshly. She was so not going to be responsible for that. Despite being dubbed a ‘chaperon’ for this little outing, which really as far as she was concerned was an excuse to give the little kids a breath of fresh air and a glimpse of the real world many of them rarely got to see. As far as Jubilee went, she was bored, bored and did she mention bored? She also suspected chaperon was just another way to remind some of them that they were seniors and needed to be responsible, please like that was going to happen.
She was gone. She was leaving, slipping away to the food court, going to go find something sweet and eat loads of it! She eyed the real adults, and contemplated escape. There was a tug on her jeans and when she looked down little hand’s reaching in the air. Jubilee rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue. This earned her a giggle and tip-toes with hands stretching out farther. This was not one of their kids, but an unattended kid was still an unattended kid so she picked her up and swung her around in a circle before grinning and saying, “Hi, I’m Jubilee, who are you?”
The little kid giggled and began to exam Jubilee’s earrings before she said, “Sarah.”
She grinned, “Hello Sarah. Where’s your mommy or daddy?”
The kids shrugged. Hmmm, had to be around here somewhere, Jubilee glanced around, but didn’t see any parents with the ‘oh my, where the heck did my kid go’ look. She bounced her way over to Scott and popped her gum quickly before she jumped into a quick spiel, “Hey look what I found, isn’t she cute? Can we keep her? No, didn’t think so. Well, okay then I’ll just like go turn her into lost and found.”
Not giving Scott the chance to even answer she zipped away. Yes! She’d like so gotten away and little kids were wonderful. She spun Sarah around again, “You are like so awesome.”
Sarah giggled.
“Now who are you here with?”
“My Mommy.”
“Yea, I bet she’s worried about you. Where was the last place you saw her?”
“She had to go potty, but I didn’t. I went with her, but I wanted to see the dinosaur again.” The kid hadn’t even finished the sentence and Jubilee was heading towards the bathroom in time to see a panicked looking mom exit.
“Hey!” Jubilee waved before holding up the kid, “this yours?”
The woman came over and scooped the child away, all the while scolding about not ducking under doors while mommy was using the bathroom. Jubilee popped her gum and bounced back and forth while she waited for the triad to end. When the woman finally slowed down, Jubilee poked the pouting Sarah, and crossed her eyes. Sarah giggled as Jubilee asked, “Is this your mommy?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay, bye then.”
She got a her thank you when she started to leave. It was the mom running up to her and making a fuss that made Ororo notice that she wasn’t with the group and call her over. She gave Scott a suspicious look and reminded herself that it was Ms. Munroe and Mr. Summers. Nah, it was probably the mom fussing. She bounced her way over and hung back at the edge of the group. So much for escape, fine then she’d stay with the group, but she refused to set a good example.
