Mutation: Adrian has lived for several thousands of years, and is quite possibly the first mutant, or at least one of the earliest. So far, he hasn't aged a day above forty, and despite countless attempts on his life, he has survived each and every one unharmed, not counting the innumerable amount of scars that line his body. Possessing one of the most powerful healing factors known to exist, Adrian can, and has, survived everything from gunshot wounds and decapitation to utter incineration and even a nuclear explosion. Minor wounds heal in the blink of an eye, and limbs are regrown within minutes. Truly grievous wounds, like disintegration or being burned to ash, are counteracted in a mere few hours. He is, without any weakness or limit, unkillable. Truly immortal, never aging, never dying.
He has no need for air, food or sleep, and has near unlimited stamina. Adrian's also at peak human condition, thanks to lifetimes of exercise and training honing every aspect of his body to the very limits of it's potential.
Unfortunately, Adrian still feels pain, which makes running headlong into a storm of bullets a less then appealing idea, and he can even be rendered unconscious if repeatedly subjected to extreme amounts, though training has made him far more resilient then any ordinary person. Furthermore, it is possible to partially deplete his healing factor with repeated attacks, causing each new wound to heal a little slower then the last.
Even worse, if Adrian is subjected to truly staggering amounts of damage, his mind and body will temporarily shut down for a few hours, allowing him to focus all his energy on healing. When this happens, Adrian's powers often damage his memory, which means he might awakes with total or at the very least partial amnesia. Because of this, Adrian can't recall much of his life, having only sporadic fragments and subconscious knowledge.
Then there's the fact that, fit or not, Adrian is still only human, and while impervious to permanent damage, he's not gifted with much in the offensive department. And unkillable does not equal unstoppable. While he can't be killed, there's plenty of ways to incapacitate Adrian, such as burying him, immersing him in cement, chaining him up and dropping him in the middle of the ocean or just locking him up in the basement.
Lastly, Adrian seems to have a infinite memory capacity, as he is able to remember thousands upon thousands of years worth of memory, although not on a conscious level. This has the (un)fortunate side-effect of rendering Adrian utterly unassailable by telepaths, since those who try to enter his mind are overwhelmed by the raw force of his collected memories and rather forcefully thrown out again.
Skills: With more then a hundred thousand years worth of life, Adrian has undoubtedly amassed more knowledge then thought humanly possible, and forgotten almost as much. Even so, Adrian has access to some of this knowledge, though only on a near subconscious level. As a result, he learns most things at a remarkable pace, as he is not so much learning as refreshing his memory. So far, he has picked up the medical knowledge of a late nineteen century doctor, basic electronics, classical forging and wielding of medieval weaponry, the creation of various poisons popular with assassins, the piloting of world war two aircraft and more then a dozen languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German and various forms of Saami.
Adrian is a walking fountain of trivia and obscure facts, and occasionally he can recall information that is actually useful, such as knowing the architect or layout of a particular old building or how to pick a certain model of safe. Unfortunately, Adrian's flashes of insight are sporadic and unpredictable, and more often then not he needs to rely on learned knowledge like everyone else.
A master marksman, Adrian is able to transform the most mundane of household equipment into lethal projectiles and use conventional weaponry with pinpoint accuracy. Likewise, he is skilled in close-quarters combat, the wild mix of various martial arts he remembers combining to form a unpredictable fighting style.
He's also a masterful detective, being both highly perceptive and intuitive, able to read people and puzzle together information to form accurate ideas about what happened and why.
Personality:Thanks to his repeated bouts of amnesia, Adrian doesn't have a true, constant personality. Sometimes he's reborn as a kindhearted saint, others as a egotistical bastard, though he seems to have had a disturbingly large amount of mentally unbalanced incarnations.
Yet one constant remains, always, no matter what. Be he good or evil, Adrian always has a burning desire to restore his memory, going to almost any lengths just to get a fleeting glimpse of what he used to be. This means that almost all his incarnations have a habit of constantly touching and smelling everything they can, trying to reawaken some shard of memory. He never orders the same food from the same place twice, or take the same road to work every day. Instead Adrian constantly tries something new, all in the hope that it will bring another memory to the surface.
As one might expect from a man who can't even recall his own name, Adrian has grown to be rather introspective, prone to letting his mind wander, twisting and turning whatever he's thinking about at the moment. Luckily, his borderline brooding does come with an upside, in the form of a rather stable sense of self, as paradoxical as that may be in an amnesiac. Adrian is quite aware of the rather overly grandiose nature of his existence, and is often the first to point out just how silly his life really is.
He's also the first one to point out how silly something is in general. Because it just so happens to be that Adrian possess a rather dry sense of humor, and coupled with his perceptive nature it often leads to him calmly ridiculing whatever situation he happens to find himself in, often from a rather cynical point of view.
Adrian is also rather distant, almost detached. He rarely shows any sign of turbulent emotion, and remains disturbingly calm even in the most hectic of situations. Due to his immortal nature, he often misses or ignores the gravity of a situation, forgetting that not everyone is as impervious to harm as he is, something which makes most people a little annoyed at him, especially when the pressure starts building.
Another aspect clearly fueled by his immortality is his patience. Because time means so little to him, Adrian can easily spend hours, even days doing nothing at all. While this is a trait that renders him an excellent marksman and spy, it also unnerves those around him, as he has a habit of sitting absolutely still for several minutes at a time, not to mention that he's almost always late, and refuses to stress or hurry even when he really, really should.
Though few know about it, Adrian hasn't escaped the insanity that plagued so many of his previous lives, though he's certainly far from the worst. Spared from the overt madness that afflicted some of his predecessors, Adrian merely experiences certain... hallucinations. Specifically, certain situations, events or even thoughts or emotions can bring previous incarnations back, manifesting as hallucinations that talk, and react, to him. While this can allows him the occasional access to memories from their lifetimes, it more often then not serves to distract and confuse him at the most inappropriate of times, not to mention trying to influence his behavior.
This incarnation has a very strong sense of morality, and feels obligated to do the 'right thing' in most situations, which is probably why he joined NYPD in the first place. This is especially clear when one sees Adrian interact with the people around him. For while his detached, somewhat quirky nature can often lead to unintended insults or inappropriate comments, he is always willing to offer advice and help to those that need it. For those that can stand his somewhat confusing behavior, Adrian can be a good friend, and a reliable partner.
History: Adrian has, in one form or another, existed since the dawn of man. Through the ages, he's been both noble hero and a scheming villain, wealthy socialite and impoverished thief, wise council and maniacal fool. He's seen the birth and fall of countless civilizations, fought in wars long forgotten and fathered bloodlines that persist to this day. And throughout time he has died, only to be reborn with no recollection of his past, free to recreate himself time and time again, forging a new man out of the ashes of the old, forever returning like the Phoenix of myth.
Though he isn't aware of it, Adrian was actually one of the very first humans, and has persisted from the stone age, going from incarnation to incarnation, each one sliding farther and farther away from his first life. It's been millenia since he's been able to recall his true name, much less any details about his first life. And only in the last hundred years has he known what he truly is, barring one or two exception. Before that, he was condemned to ignorance, believing the source of his immortality to be everything from witchcraft and divine will to the fountain of youth and the river Styx.
Adrian, as he exists now, has survived unusually long for an incarnation with such an active lifestyle. Coming to in an dark alley in Hong Kong, an hour from the new millennium, dressed in a expensive suit drenched in his own blood, Adrian had no idea who, or where he was as he stumbled out into the crowded streets of downtown Hong Kong. His only clue to his existence was a partially burnt piece of paper with the name Adrian and a series of seemingly random numbers.
Confused by the cacophony of sounds and dazzling lights that surrounded him, Adrian stumbled through the crowd in a panicked daze. Only when he came upon a young boy being mugged did he feel anything but fear. Before he even had time to think about it, Adrian charged, only to be greeted by the cold, alien feel of a nine millimeter bullet burying it's way through his gut. Yet, something made him push past the pain, and then he was upon them, brutally killing three men without even thinking about it, only to pass out moments later.
Waking up in the care of the young boy's mother, Adrian spent the better part of three months in a average Hong Kong apartment, re-learning the way of the world. Eventually he became aware of his abilities, as he watched a cut from a kitchen knife close in a second, which triggered more memories of just what he was capable of. Curious to find out more, Adrian set out to discover who he was, driven by small flashes of memory.
The next several years were spent wandering the world as he slowly recovered more and more of his memories, trying to puzzle together who and what he was. As the world dealt with the mutant threat, Adrian was off in Tibet, trying to find a temple from his dreams, only to find out it had burnt down five hundred years ago. However, he soon felt compelled to return to New York, though he had no idea why. So, with the help of some underground friends and the memory of one very well charged bank account, Adrian forged himself a new identity and became, of all things, a police office, soon rising to the rank of detective.
As the mutant community mourned the death of Xavier, Adrian was busy drinking himself into a stupor over the memory of a daughter long lost, caring little for the death of a man he never remembered meeting. Only when the Chimera virus killed thousands did Adrian decide to get involved, stepping up and lending his healing factor to those working on a cure. When a cure was found, Adrian was offered a position with the X-men, but he politely refused. Instead, he continues his work as a New York detective, fighting the little fights while searching for the truth of just who and what he is. However, he does keep some tentative connections to the X-men, often giving them a call about things he hears that might interest them, or sending any runaway teenage mutants he encounters their way. Once or twice he has even participated directly, though he still refuses to join their ranks, despite the quickly increasing amount of times he finds himself working with them.
